Hello All, I'm back again. I want to purchase an owners manual for a 1978 XT500. I looked around on the Internet a few times.

I couldn't find even one for a 1978 XT. If you know of a source or have one for sale. Please contact me.

Also, my XT is used as a street bike. Has anyone changed the rear fender to a street type fender? What did you use? The original saddle isn't my cup of tea, looks wise. Stanley garage door opener manual st 400. And the back portion is too firm for my old butt. I've figured that the only way to get a better looking and functioning saddle is to take the original to a upholstery shop and have them make one using the original seat pan.

Is there a NEW saddle that looks good and fits. And is kinda comfortable for 100 mile trips? Has anyone put on a larger trans sprocket?? Right now the engine is a little busy @ 65 mph.

Is the stock 32mm carb OK or is there a better one for street performance(with opened up exhaust but STOCK cam)? I'm old, fat and this bike reminds me of riding when I was young (I'm currently 70). Any help in these matters would be appreciated. I'm in kinda a hurry here.Time is running out. My eyes are going.

Thank You, Blind Melon aka Larry D. I changed to a down pipe with a reverse meg muffler (British Type) no baffles. I removed the original front fender (all cracked) and replaced it with a street type fender. My friend borrowed the bike, ran it low on oil.So, my XT with unknown miles (speedo was broken when I purchased it) now has an new top end, including the cam, cam chain ect.

Hi BM - I have an original Owners handbook 1978, and if you let me know what you are after I can scan the relevant bit and PM it to you. Re the seat - I had a shop in Monteideo Uruguay make me a seat in leather - they did a good job but XT's are simply not the most comfortable beasts to sit on so I doubt it will make much difference. Mine is comfortable enough, but rear end still aches after 100 miles! Re fenders - I think the originals are OK are they not?

On sprockets - I have heard of people changing the sizes to increase top speed with lower revs etc. I'm sure there are plenty of views on this - I prefer to leave as standard because I guess that it how it was designed but hey.give it a try!
