Deckel 11 Manuals
I know of that FPNC Service Information Series. I have the one volume called?Technical description of the FPNC machine?, but which is not very informative. I trade of copy of mine for a copy of yours. I sure would like to have all the others, and I am sure I will come across them eventually. I know people who have them, one of them is just to disorganized and doesn?t like to sort through huge stacks of Deckel stuff to look for them. I ask myself why the stuff has not yet proliferated through to the end user.
The answer is probably that the machines are normally in a factory / job shop environment. When it breaks they call the service guy and don?t bother about the inner workings. Machine prices are too high for private ownership and they sure are a space problem, especially in Europe. Only when the machines flow down in ownership to the bottem end user (as in last?just keep it alive?user) the repair method is changing. When a machine is worth 5 to 10K at a minimum and then turns out to be 5K for fixing it, the private owner will become creative.
I personnally like to understand the stuff I own, therefore my quest for knowledge, which is also the reason owning my machine in the first place. A machine tool dealer who buys a broken FPNC with the purpose of fixing it on the cheap and by himself and then selling it is probably rare. Its do-able of course if the purchasing price is right.
Assuming what you can sell a nice FPNC (A) for in Germany, there is some financial maneuvering space if one buys a cheap broken one. Normally a nice FPNC that just does not run control wise will cost about 1K to make it run, if you are not completely out of luck. If you really are out of luck and the more expensive cards are shot you may be looking at 3K.
This is assuming rebuildability of cards. That?s valid in Germany because the next service technician is about 1 hour away, has a testbench for each Dialog version, and charges 50? To test a card. Rebuild cards start at 400? Next to rebuild cards, you can also get cards repaired, but then you do not get full warranty on the entire card, only on the component fixed. In the US I expect this to be a whole different ballgame financially.
I would buy a cheap broken FPNC in a heardbeat if it is mechanicly sound and complete and has the right control. But then I would calculate a lot of time to fix it, simply for the time to send off cards and have them tested. I would not expect to throw a magic switch and have it run, though I would hope for it. I have had my FP3NC now for only 10 weeks, and I am learning in leaps. Naturally after that short a time I am not yet connected enough to have access to everything. Around here I am also exotic in owning an NC machine for no commerial reason. The service guys don?t quite know what to make of me, but it reduces prices if you are a cash paying no receipt needing privateer.

Also they seem to appreciate the enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge on my part. I guess normally they are not treated as guardians of the holy Deckel grail and fontain of knowledge, but rather as just the service dude, who should have fixed stuff yesterday. I have not yet heard from any of them a NO when requsting literature. Some stuff I just got for free outright or on loan for copying. But I guess even you Don don?t take happily to calls from someone you don?t know and have never seen calling you, or wose e-mailing, and asking you to scan or copy a couple of hundred pages or even just 50. Didn?t you once write here?life?s to short? So I will not push them.
It takes time to establish that kind of relationship. Unfortunately I can?t work at that subject anymore at the moment. I think with this Forum there is the chance of getting the interested parties together in one?place? And eventually find a way of collecting all information and displaying it publicly. Alan has started that admirably for the conventional machines. There is way to go for the NC machines.
I myself am unfortunately still to internet illiterate to do so, but would certainly contribute all I have. Problem may be my stuff being in german. Martin, it's interesting that your service manual doesn't seem to be a part of the six part series that mine is. I wonder if that is because it is older or newer than mine? Can you look thru and find a date? It may be in 'code' in tiny letters at the bottom of the first or last page. Or perhaps Deckel printed a whole different manual in German and the 'series' mine came from is an English thing only??
I know what you mean about the 'helpful' aspects, as this manual I have doesn't appear to be as helpful and specific as I would like. But it's infinitely better than nothing. An official Deckel service manual or series of service manuals on the Dialog 11 would be like Mana from Heaven to me right now and I'm.dying.
of curiosity if such a publication ever existed for the D 11! How many pages is yours? Why do you say its not of the same series as yours? It is bullet number 2 in your picture.
I made that (wrong) assumption because there is not a number on the front of your manual. Notice on mine in the lower right corner there is a red '3' that corresponds to the number in the series. I presume on yours the number '2' must appear somewhere on the.inside. of the manual?
Maybe this was just something they did for the 1985 printings to clarify which number in the series on the front cover. Sure, I'll make you a copy.can take it to a copy center. You want it now or sent to Alabammy? And should I pay extra for.two. color for you, like the original? I haven't read this carefully (gotta go work on the house.
2 weeks from today. Yeeehaaawww!) but, yes, I have.one. of those manuals scanned. I believe mine is for a Dialog 2 control though (I'll check later). If there is a series, then I'd like to get it so that I can scan the material. I don't have this on the CD because I didn't have the room and it is a niche interest for people. However, I am sort of becoming the unofficial librarian.
I've had several requests for material that I do have (but not on the CD), and I will get this to people. Yes, eventually I really do plan on doing a DVD. In that even I'd put it all on there. The price of media has dropped substantially and I probably have enough material. I'd like to get more though. It has become a trickle, and I would really like to fill a DVD, not sent it out half full. So, service manuals to NC machines would be more than welcome.
Not now though. Maybe in March when I am moved back in.
Unless it was sheet feedbable, I cannot even process a manual now (especially if I would want to scan in color). My scanners are stowed in one of two huge shipping containers (don't even know which one at this point! I'll p-mail you my address Don. Please do send me yours. Black and white is fine, mine is already a copy, so it will be same. I am sitting here to fill boxes, not empty them.
Its slow work as I tend to leaf through the stuff to be boxed: This is leaflet is kinda funny, it says 'the new extention to the Dialog 4' and 'now the control can calculate'. And 'the DNC interface opens you the path to the future'. Printed 7.87 Yes Alan, you are the librarian, we need to mill you something as an appointment piece with a Deckel crest on it. Once you are settled back in I need to mail you some stuff to scan for an S1. Case Study fliers were printed to give the sales reps something to hand to the customer to stimulate conversation to find additional reasons why it would be beneficial for the customer to buy an FP-NC.
Case Study 1 Economical manufacturing of mould / EDM electrode combinations (in German) Case Study 2 Showing that the machine can be used in a production environment. Case Study 3 A comparison between DIN + NMTBA and JIS showing the reasons why Japanese makers can quote very high accuracies, according to standards. Case Study 4 Reduction of programmes, using Paramatric programming. Case Study 5 Advantages of using a tool changer (pushing the FP-A/AT series). OK, I have the 'Troublshooting' manual scanned: I also have one entitled 'FP2NC FP3NC FP4NC with Dialog 4 Controls' (on the back, I don't have the front cover) scanned. It should be noted that neither of these has schematics.
They are more flow oriented than anything else. Try this, then try that, and if nothing works then send the board in for repair. That type of thing. Also, neither manual can be emailed. They are 90Megs in length, roughly. I would be interested in scanning any of the other service manuals that are available.

Don, only the first one is in German, the others are in English. I posted all with Photobucket thumb prints so this listing opens faster. If you double click on any of the scans and click on the (+) mouse handle it becomes as scanned and you will be able to read properly. Right click and Properties, at the end, before the.jpg you will see Deckel's publication number and date. Would you believe, as I was uploading the scans, I actually caught a goof of Deckels editor or the printers. On the inside cover of Service-Information 'The FPNC Machine: Technical description' they printed EDITION: D 1055/8.84.
As this is an English langiage publication, and providing they used the proper print number, it should have been E 1055/8.84. Add new comment.
