I don't work front desk, but I work housekeeping supervisor occasionally and have to use Opera. They have a grid that's 4 rows, and like 13 columns. The first column is Shift, Control, or Alt. Then you have the F1 through F12 (Or whatever it goes to.). You write down what each one goes to. Like I know Shift F4 goes to the Dashboard if you want to look up a person's name or a room # and see who is in there.
That may help. They keep a cheat sheet laminated and taped under the keyboard in case they ever need it.

Having worked with Opera and Fidelio for over twenty years the functionality offered by Opera PMS is vast and varied. Features don't just exist they can be hidden from the screen using functions, their behavior can be altered using parameters and their values can be defaulted using settings. Over the years my conversation with hoteliers has changed from quantity to quality to value. In the good old days volume of data meant fear of data corruption or even data loss - you were never too many key strokes away from a good findex fix. The conversation moved onto data quality and input control - no postal address then no contact with the guest. Back in the late 90's and early 00's data security wasn't as we know it today.
Security was the guy who stood at the front door! Since the mid 00's the surge in online connectivity to the then booking channels - meant the management of profile duplication or manual data entry from the fax machine/email. Opera and OXI were streets ahead in automated match and merge but I still visit hotels where this is not configured correctly, a simple training and configuration aka product knowledge. Nowadays having moved into a world of connectivity we are trying to take the profile to a whole new level.

Self Service brought about by mobile apps, managing duplication created by interfaces with OTAs, CRSs, CRMs bring reporting challenges to business intelligence systems. Then there is always the question who owns the profile in a multi property world? All departments in the hotel are demanding input or output from the profile. Marketing/revenue, sales, loyalty, BI, reservations, front office, 3rd parties etc are generating this incredible thirst for data, everybody wants a piece of the action. Effort has moved from the postal address to the email, phone and social media. Be it corporate, contact or guest how can you manage the business expectations of the profile capability without knowing the constraints and limitations of the functionality. And then there is GDPR EU General Data Protection Regulation.

While this is a much stricter form of the existing directive it will now become legislation and to do business. Hold sensitive data on any EU citizen will mean you will have to comply.
I have no doubt that just like the PCI bandwagon GDPR will generate most costs for hotels. That's a lot to handle, if you are the Opera person at your hotel or head office. Especially if you rely on Oracle or mucho testing to provide the answers.
Well help is on hand, the first step in becoming that guru is knowing the product, its limitations and constraints, then you can take this knowledge with you when you define or shape the operating procedures for your business. I have created an online course that covers every aspect of the Opera PMS profile configuration and usage. This is over 7 modules, 70 lessons, 11+ hours of video tutorial.
